UAE Barista Championship
The biggest event of the region’s espresso industry is returning to Dubai. It is time for submission of entries to the 4th UAE BARISTA CHAMPIONSHIP.
The most skilled and professional baristas in the UAE will again battle for the coveted title of the 4th UAE Barista Champion at the International Coffee & Tea Festival 2012. The competition begins on 30th October and concludes with a final round and champion’s ceremony on 2nd November.
The UAE Barista Championship will highlight the skills and knowledge of the country’s finest baristas. Each barista must prepare four espressos, four cappuccinos, and four original espresso-based signature beverages in a 15-minute performance set to the music of their choice. As they ready their coffee beverages, contestants engage the audience, explaining their actions and selections, while expertly working on the espresso machine.
The winner of the 2012 UAE Barista Championship will receive the highest national honour for a Barista and a paid trip to represent the UAE at the 2013 World Barista Championship.
Each year the bar gets set higher and higher as we see competitors who have trained and practiced meticulously to get to the World Barista Championship. Competitors go through the process of planning every aspect of their presentation. They pick the coffee they want to serve, the cups, the table decor and even the music to set the ambiance for their performance.

Think you've got what it takes to Judge a cup of coffee?
Interested to become a UAE Barista Championship Certified Judge for 2012/2013?
If you are in the coffee industry and looking at expanding your horizons, this is your opportunity to obtain worldwide recognition as a Coffee Competition Judge. The National level Barista Championship is sanctioned by the World Barista Championship (WBC) and paves the way not just for the Baristas but for anyone who would like advance their coffee and coffee preparation assessments.
Each year, prior to the commencement of the UAEBC, we conduct a 2-day intensive Judges Certification Workshop Programme. During these days, you are taught all the sensory and technical skills required to judge a barista competition. All successful participants are awarded with National Level Certification that also entitles them a seat on the UAEBC Judging Panel. Furthermore, Certified Judges who dedicate themselves to a minimum of 2 National level Barista Championships such as the UAEBC, will be entitled to enroll in the World Barista Championship/World Coffee Events Judges Certification programme.
Pre-requisites for the UAEBC Judges Certification Workshop
Before registering to for the UAEBC Judges Certification Workshop for 2012, you must meet the following pre-requisites:
- Be able to comprehend instructions and presentations in English, and willing to complete UAEBC score sheets in English
- Pay all fees for the UAEBC Judges Certification Workshop
- Be committed to coffee excellence and promotion of the Barista profession.
- Agree to approach UAEBC judging with a constructive and supportive attitude geared towards helping and supporting the baristas and improving the quality of specialty coffee around the world
- Agree to Comply with the Code of Conduct for UAEBC Judges and Logo use terms
